Pervaporation and vapor-permeation membrane modules recovering process solvent.

Solvent Recovery & Purification

Buying and disposing of solvent is expensive; recovering it is not, when the separation is done right. Petro Sep applies pervaporation and vapor permeation to dehydrate, purify, and recover process solvents, including the azeotropic mixtures distillation cannot finish. Ethanol, IPA, methanol, acetonitrile, and custom chemistries, recovered at high purity for reuse, with payback often inside two years on solvent purchase and disposal savings alone.

Solvent recovery rate
98 to 99.8%
Verified on isopropanol, ethanol, methanol, and acetonitrile feeds.
Energy vs distillation
1/4 to 1/2
No phase-change penalty; the membrane runs near process temperature.
Payback
12 to 24 months
On solvent purchase and disposal savings, before counting emissions relief.

Separation without the reboiler

Distillation carries a heavy energy cost and cannot break azeotropes on its own. Pervaporation and vapor permeation use a dense, selective membrane that moves water or the target species across under vacuum, so the separation happens by selective transport rather than by boiling the whole stream. That means solvent recovered at high purity, dehydration past the azeotrope without entrainers, and an energy bill tied to the species removed rather than the full volume. The systems are built in-house as sanitary or industrial skids and drop onto the existing process.

Frequently asked

Common questions.

Which solvents can you recover?
Ethanol, isopropanol, methanol, and acetonitrile are common, and we develop custom membrane chemistries for solvents that off-the-shelf systems cannot handle. We confirm the separation on your feed first.
Does it replace our distillation column?
Usually it complements it. Distillation does the bulk separation efficiently up to the azeotrope; the membrane stage takes over for the final dehydration or purification where distillation is least efficient.
